Whitney Wolverine Firearm

My second attempt at Modeling guns using subdivision modeling. The gun I chose was the Whitney Wolverine, because of the overall sleekness and futuristic design.

The main challenge of modeling this gun was maintaining the cylindrical shape of the barrel as you create the rest of the gun’s body from the barrel. This gun was a lesson in patience, in terms of when I add edges to keep strong angles when it is sub-divided or add faces to create a better shape from this area.

There were a few back tracks in making this gun from learning the hard way to not refine my angles too early. One example is when I finished the handle then only to realize the sights need more edge loops for details. Overall it would create a better flow to make the sights and handle use the same edge loops and refine from there. Once I stopped rushing to keep certain parts of the gun sharper and focused on the overall shape the process became faster. Refining the edges and smaller areas still took focus and understanding to create, but I had a better understanding of the flow of the gun by then.

The texturing process of the gun was fun, adding the smears, grime, and dirt to the more touched areas of the gun.
